Beginning Spanish

For the student with no Spanish language background. Also appropriate for a refresher course of the elementary structures and vocabulary.

Intermediate Spanish

or students who have completed 1402, two years of high school Spanish or equivalent. Enriched vocabulary, advanced grammar and more complex speaking structures are introduced.

Conversational Spanish

Preq. Minimum of one year collage or two years of high school Spanish or equivalent experience. Key is ability to converse and desire to practice oral communication. Vocabulary building, grammar review, short reading selections and brief writing assignments will be included to cover holistic language.

Many Faces Of México

This course focuses on past and present day concerns of Mexican people in both Mexico and the United States. Through vignettes, role playing, videos, art and music, students explore the social, cultural, historical, political and current realities of Mexico and its relationship to the U.S. The first half of the course leads student through the pre-Colombian era, Mexican independence from Spain on into the twentieth century struggles with the U.S. The second half, brings immigrants into Minnesota communities and the effects on both cultures.
